Hola. Hello. 你好.

speak the world, beautifully.

i. A note from the teacher
Lucía, your teacher

One teacher.
Three languages.
Every student known by name.

Hola — soy Lucía. I built Orquídea after fifteen years of teaching across three countries, three languages, and roughly a thousand kitchen-table conversations about conjugaciones, tones, and the slow magic of a new word that finally feels like yours.

This isn't a platform. There's no algorithm matching you with someone. It's me, on a video call, with a notebook open and a cup of jasmine tea. We start where you are. We move at your pace. If you're three years old and learning your first colors, or thirty-three and learning to order coffee in Shanghai — you're welcome here.

The little books, too — every one of them I wrote, illustrated, and translated by hand. They're the same craft as the lessons. Patience. Personalization. Play.

— con cariño, Lucía

Hello.
/həˈloʊ/

English — the language of the garden gate.

Conversational fluency for travelers, professionals, students, and curious souls. We'll work on confidence, accent, and the small idioms that make you sound like a friend, not a textbook.

Hola.
/ˈo.la/

Spanish — the language of warm rooftops.

Castilian or Latin American — your call. We'll learn the rhythm of vosotros and ustedes, why sobremesa is untranslatable, and how to argue gently with a Madrid waiter about the bread.

你好.
nǐ hǎo

Mandarin — the language of brush and breath.

We start with the tones until they sing. Then characters, in the order they were invented — water before river, sun before bright. By month three, you'll read a children's book.

iii. How a lesson feels

You arrive. We talk. You speak. You leave braver.

moment one

You arrive.

A friendly hello. No pressure, no test. We pour something warm and ask what brought you here today.

moment two

We talk.

About your week, your travels, your worries, your goals. The first lesson is mostly listening — to your voice, your gaps, your dreams.

moment three

You speak.

Out loud. Wrong, right, halfway. We celebrate every attempt. You leave a lesson having said more than you thought you could.

moment four

You leave braver.

With a small homework, a kind word, and the feeling that someone is rooting for you. Next week, same time, we go again.

iv. The bookshelf

v. What we believe in

Patience

The hare conjugates. The turtle speaks. We move at the pace of the student.

Personalization

No two lessons alike. The grandfather and the six-year-old aren't taught the same things.

Play

Learning is serious work; it should not be serious. We laugh first, conjugate second.

vi. The students & parents

Notes pinned by the people who came here.

"Lucía met my six-year-old where she was — somewhere between giggles and shy whispers. Six months in, my daughter is reading her first picture book in Spanish. Slowly. Beautifully."
Marina, mother of one · São Paulo, Brazil
"I'm 71. I'm learning Spanish so I can speak to my Mexican grandchildren without an interpreter. We've made it through past tense. The future tense is next month."
Henri · Lyon, France
"I travel for work — usually in Asia. After three months of Mandarin with Lucía I can hold a small conversation in a taxi. Three months. Three months."
Akiko, designer · Tokyo, Japan
"My son is autistic and most online classes felt loud and rushed. Lucía's lessons are the quietest, gentlest hour of his week. He looks forward to them. So do I."
Daniela, mother of one · Buenos Aires, Argentina
"The free trial was disarming — no upsell, just a real conversation about what I wanted to learn and why. I signed up the same evening. I'm now ten months in."
James, engineer · Brooklyn, NY
"Las clases con Lucía son mi rato favorito de la semana. Aprendí inglés sin estrés, sin tareas que odio, sin esa sensación de estar volviendo al colegio. Mil gracias."
Rosa, abuela y estudiante · Granada, Spain
"We bought four of the storybooks for our bilingual home — they're the most beautiful children's books we own. Genuinely. My partner cried at the last page of The Moon, the Mountain & Mei."
Wei & Tom, parents of two · Vancouver, Canada

viii. Chapter eight

Frequently, gently asked questions.

You pick a time, we meet on video. No card, no signup wall. Forty-five minutes of real conversation — you'll leave knowing if Orquídea is right for you. If yes, lovely. If not, also lovely. No hard feelings.

Yes. Same price across English, Spanish, and Mandarin. No tiered pricing, no peak hours, no "premium native" markup. Orquídea is one teacher with a fair rate, not a marketplace.

Conversation first, grammar in service of conversation. For adults: themed sessions around your life — travel, work, family, that movie you watched. For children: stories, games, and the little coloring books from the bookshelf. Every lesson is shaped to one student.

Many of my students are shy. We start with smiles and pictures, not pressure. Parents often sit in for the first lesson and quietly fade away by the third. Some children take three months to say more than "hola." That's perfectly fine.

Absolutely. The bookshelf is open to everyone. Coloring PDFs and storybook EPUBs are instant download after checkout. Each title is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese — buy one language or buy the trilingual bundle.

Zoom or Google Meet — whichever you're already comfortable with. I'll send a single link. No app to download, no account to make. Just click and we're in.

I teach from a small studio in Madrid, but my students live everywhere from São Paulo to Tokyo. My teaching hours stretch from 6am to 10pm CET to cover most of the world. If we can't find a time, I'll write you a personal note explaining why.
